About Us
A few months ago someone posted in a Facebook group that she uses Neil LaBute’s monologues for her auditions. I was dumbstruck that someone would willingly use words by someone so problematic. So I turned to Twitter to ask my playwright friends why in 2019 is this still happening? What came from that thread was shared stories of assigned LaBute monologues in acting classes, taking jobs on productions of LaBute’s work that are now regrets on resumes, and the collective frustration with the misogyny as a whole. One of my friends said something offhand about wanting to punch misogyny or LaBute, and I thought it was a funny concept. Then I thought what if we did punch misogyny (or LaBute) with a night of work directly in response to those ideals? Those tweets and statuses grew into a pretty kick-ass collection of womxn theatre artists doing work that we can’t wait to share!
